Ron Broadbent MBE
Town Centre Ranger

Ron started as a Town Centre Ranger, at the outset of the BID in 2009 after a 30 year career with the police. Working as a Town Centre Community Officer for the Herts constabulary, Ron was mostly based in Hitchin from 1972 and so is well placed to comment on its growth. “We seem to have a different culture now”, he says, “Hitchin is a town with a village community feel to it. It is a close knit place.”

“Rangers are the eyes and ears of the BID operation dealing with security and crime prevention, the monitoring of statutory service contracts, event management, Shopwatch, Pubwatch and liaison with businesses and members of the public. It is a very varied job”.
