HOLLOWAY ANGEL OR HITCHIN OUTCAST? Elizabeth Impey Hitchin's Suffragette Talk

Location:
North Hertfordshire Museum, Brand Street
Starts:
1pm
Ends:
2pm
£3 per person This fascinating talk takes us back to Edwardian times to look at the suffrage movement. Following on from our popular exhibition, North Herts Undaunted, we focus in on one particular lady of the time called Elizabeth Impey. Elizabeth Impey (1877-1973) Born Elizabeth Chambers, the future suffragette became interested in women’s rights at a young age and joined the Hitchin branch of the Women’s Co-¬Operative Guild in 1899. She joined the WSPU in 1906 and the following year was imprisoned in Holloway for her activities. She continued to promote The Cause to a largely sceptical Hitchin and became firm friends with Lady Constance Lytton. Join us for a lunchtime talk by Ros Allwood at North Hertfordshire Museum. Includes a free cup of tea or coffee. Bring your sandwiches with you! Purchase tickets through the Eventbrite link or pop into the Town Hall Reception. (Related Image: Votes for Women.jpg)
