IMPORTANT INFORMATION Support for Hitchin Businesses 20/3/2020
I will be sending all Hitchin Town Centre businesses up to date information on a regular basis to ensure you are all able to access the financial support and information as soon as possible during theses challenging times.

The Chancellor is to announce support for employees this afternoon which will significantly impact businesses and their ability to retain staff. I will be listening and taking notes on this announcement and sending out an email tomorrow with more information.

Today I have received the following update from Cllr Albert the Executive Member, Finance & IT at NHDC:

"NHDC is expecting detailed business support guidance from Government today. 
Current plans are that Government will pay the announced business support money to Local Authorities on 1st April 2020.
It remains current thinking that it will be up to Councils like NHDC to distribute the money in most practical way, subject to eligibility criteria.
As said previously, measures will be £10k to all businesses with a RV under £15k, and up to £25k for those businesses with an RV between £15k and £51k.
There will be a cut off date to prevent anyone taking in empty premises speculatively.
NHDC is considering the most practical way to make payments. This may well be through your business rates account from which you can claim a refund. No current business rate arrears will be deducted from the refund. But we will confirm details.
Separately, we will be rebilling and reissuing business rates bills, where necessary, next week to take account of the new business rates relief/holidays announced by Government."
We will issue further guidance on how this will all work next week.

Local Business Vouchers
To try and ease cashflow challenges over the coming weeks, we are encouraging businesses to create and offer vouchers for residents to buy now and redeem later in the year. We have set up a voucher page on the www.hitchinherts.com website which we will promote on various social media platforms.

  • Contact details (website, phone number) for customers to call or purchase voucher.If you don’t already have vouchers, we are also offering all businesses FREE voucher printing in the Information Office.
